“10 minutes” – April 2013

Every month, we ask you 10 minutes of your time. 10 minutes x 255 Spotters = potentially HUGE impact!

facebook-pillow

What’s the goal this month?
We added a new field to each article last year – “Facebook page”. We’d love to link to all Facebook pages in all articles, if there is one.

Note: you don’t have to be a Facebook member to do this!

Why is this important?
It makes your article more relevant and interesting for visitors. Many travelers check out spots’ Facebook pages for events. Also, we will share your article with the owner of the spot via Facebook – they’ll love that!

Extra tip
Follow the Facebook page (if you’re on Facebook), or bookmark it, to keep up with changes in opening times or new events.

What do we ask you to do?
Check if your spots have a Facebook page. And add the Facebook page URL (e.g. https://www.facebook.com/ParadisoAdam)  to the editing system. And while you’re at it, please tick “wifi” if there’s wifi in your spot.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Bart!

What’s the goal this month
?
Join Google+, and link your profile to your city blog.
Indeed, same assignment as December 2012. It’s so important for us, we want everybody to do it.

Why is this important?
Google will know there are “real” people behind our city blogs. This will greatly improve the ranking of your articles and reduce stealing of content. We can’t stress enough: very important! Read more about it here.

What do we ask you to do?
1) Set up a link between Google & Spotted by Locals
Have a Google+ profile? Please join and add a link to your profile
Don’t have a Google+ profile? Please add a link to your profile

2) Send Bart (bart@spottedbylocals.com) the link to your Google+ profile
He will add this to your profile.

FAQ
Do I need to be active on Google+ ?
No, it can be a very “passive” profile!

Will I have to worry about privacy, if I join Google+?
Generally, social media experts (e.g. Wired) regard Google’s privacy policy as much better for users than Facebook’s. We agree.
Also, if you don’t share anything, there’s no invasion of privacy.

What if I don’t want to join Google+?
Please consider it seriously.  We can’t force you of course.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Bart!

During Bart’s presentation on the Spotters weekend we explained how  10 minutes of help from each Spotter every month in marketing, can make a HUGE impact. We are 214 strong!

What’s the November 2012 “10 minutes” goal?
At least 500 iPhone / Android reviews in November 2012

Why?
We can’t beat Lonely Planet in amount of downloads (their advertising budget is huge!) but with good ratings we can surpass them in the App Stores!

What do we ask you to do?
For those on Facebook: share the link https://www.spottedbylocals.com/blog/rate-review-apps/, with an accompanying text that encourages your friends to help you!

E.g. something like…
As you may know I blog for Spotted by Locals city guides. If you have an Android or iPhone, please help us by rating & reviewing our app. Thanks a lot!
https://www.spottedbylocals.com/blog/rate-review-apps/

On Facebook, this would look like:

If you don’t want to cooperate this month, please send Bart an e-mail and we will not ask you anymore!

PS: If you want to download the full version of the App as a Spotter, of course you get it for free!

Results (updated 7 December 2012):
From our calculation 40% of Spotters on Facebook cooperated. Thank you for those who did!
We had a 200% increase in reviews to 15 in November, but did not achieve our 500 reviews by far… If you haven’t done so: please rate & review, and ask your friends!
